Members of a Russian Military-Technical Society crossed the Kerch Strait in two BRDM-2 amphibious armoured personnel carriers, Sunday, as part of the Kerch Landing Forces Road of Courage historical re-enactment.
SOT, Tatiana Gayn, Military and Technical Society member (Russian): "The vehicle is doing well. We trust it completely. We were worried about crossing this shipping lane, because a lot of ships travel through here. We slowed down and let a boat past, everything was fine and we hit land soon.”
SOT, Alexei Migalen, Military and Technical Society President (Russian): "Our event "Kerch Landing. The Road of Courage" honours the Kerch and Eltigensky operation of 1943. We decided to do it because history gets distorted, and we in the military and technical society believe this is unacceptable. Therefore the events we carry out are intended to remind young people of how things actually were."
SOT, Alexei Migalen, Military and Technical Society President (Russian):"We travelled 15km. This record will be registered in the book of records of Russia. It’s worth noting that one of the crews was made up of women. This made those meeting us aware that not only men sat behind the wheel of armoured reconnaissance vehicles but also women.”
